The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has received a proposal to increase match fees for cricketers who will take part in the 2021-2022 season of the Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

At the same time, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, vice president Rajeev Shukla, secretary Jay Shah and treasurer Arun Dhumal held a two-day meeting in Mumbai to discuss the proposal. The proposal stated that players who have played 20 or more matches will get Rs. 60,000 per day from next season instead of Rs. 35,000, while players who have played less than 20 matches will get Rs 45,000 per day. The players of the domestic men's team will get the fee on the basis of experience. The players will also receive INR 1,000 as a daily allowance.

IPL suspended midway due to COVID-19:

The BCCI is also holding discussions regarding the compensation to cricketers for the part of the 2020/21 season that was lost due to the pandemic. The 2020 domestic season saw the Ranji Trophy being cancelled for the first time in 87 years due to bio-bubble and logistic issues. However, the BCCI is looking to host a full-fledged season this year between October-April with a three-month dedicated window for the First-Class tournament. Meanwhile, the now-postponed Indian Premier League (IPL) was the last notable cricket tournament that took place on Indian soil. The competition was suspended midway amid the Covid-19 crisis. BCCI also had the hosting rights of the ICC T20 World Cup but it has been shifted to the UAE.
