Serbia’s Novak Djokovic Tops the Latest ATP Rankings

Serbia's star tennis player Novak Djokovic reached the top in the latest ATP rankings, after winning the Australian Open 2020 men's singles title. Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal took the first place after defeating Djokovic on November 4 last year. Federer retained the third position in the rankings with 7130 points. Djokovic, who won all 13 of his matches this year, has 9720 points, while Nadal, who lost to Thiem in the semi-finals of the Australian Open, has 9395 rating points. Thiem has also gained in the rankings, improving one place to reach fourth place with 7045 rating points, while Daniil Medvedev of Russia slipped from fourth to fifth, losing in the pre-quarterfinals of the Australian Open. In this match, Switzerland's Stan Wawrinka, who defeated Medvedev, gained two places and reached 13th position.

In the women's WTA rankings, Australian Open winner Sophia Kenin of America gained seven places to move up to seventh. With this, she has become the number one player in America, beating Serena Williams. Serena remains ninth. The first time Grand Slam finalists Kenin defeated two-time Grand Slam champion Garbine Muguruza 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.

Muguruza's ranking improved by 16 places, now reached 16th position. Australia's Ashleigh Barty, who suffered a loss to Kenin in the semi-finals, remains on top while Simona Halep, who lost to unseeded Muguruza, improved to one place and moved up to second. Czech Republic's Karolina Pliskova dropped from second to third place, while Japan's Naomi Osaka slipped from fourth to 10th in the ranking.
