NATO foreign ministers have called an emergency meeting on Friday to discuss the unfolding situation in Afghanistan. The meeting will take place via video conferencing, will chair by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. He himself gave this information by tweeting.

On Tuesday, Stoltenberg blamed Afghan leaders for the rout, saying they "failed to stand up" to the Taliban. However, he also acknowledged that NATO should also address the shortcomings of its military training program. NATO forces were in Afghanistan since 2003 and during this time they took a direct front from the Taliban.

NATO chief gave information via tweet:

On Wednesday, Stoltenberg tweeted, "I have convened an extraordinary virtual meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers this Friday 20 August to continue our close coordination & discuss our common approach on Afghanistan."

From the year 2014, the NATO changed its strategy and started training the Afghan army. Despite the training given by spending billions of dollars, the Afghan security forces could not stand against Taliban. Stoltenberg said about 800 personnel from NATO countries are still working in Afghanistan. They are mainly involved in the work of ATC in Kabul, refueling and maintaining the communication system of the airport.
