AgustaWestland Case: HC seeks Reply from ED and CBI on Michel’s Bail Plea

The court has sought an answer from the investigating agency in the case. CBI and ED will have to file a reply within two weeks. The next hearing of the case will be held on 13 November. Earlier, a special court in Delhi dismissed Michel's bail plea. Michel has filed a petition in the Delhi High Court after the bail plea was rejected. The CBI and ED opposed the bail plea in Delhi court.

In Delhi's special court, the investigating agency had said that Michel's claim that he had been questioned for 600 hours in 28 days was wrong. The ED had said that Michelle had given a statement in section 50 in the interrogation, stating that her father had been mediating defense deals for a long time. Mitchell's bail plea was rejected by the court after hearing appeals from both sides.

Christian Michel, an alleged middleman in the AgustaWestland case, was arrested after bringing him from Dubai to India. Mitchell has been questioned several times in this case.  The UPA government under the leadership of Congress had signed a deal to buy 12 VVIP helicopters from Italian company AgustaWestland. The deal was accused of scam. After this, the Government of India canceled the deal in January 2014. The CBI investigated this scam. After the investigation, the first charge sheet was filed by CBI on September 1, 2017. In this case, the CBI had charged eight people including former Air Force chief SP Tyagi, former Air Marshal JS Gujral.  After the CBI investigation, ED had registered a case of money laundering.
