After the death of about 20 thousand birds in Sambhar lake of Rajasthan, now five thousand birds have died due to botulism disease in Nawa of Nagaur district. Botulism was the cause of bird deaths in Sambhar Lake too. Due to the close proximity of the Nawa to Sambhar, there has been talk of bacteria reaching there. Rescue work is also having trouble due to illegal mining in Nawa. Presently, only about one thousand birds have been rescued.
State Forest and Environment Minister Sukhram Vishnoi has directed the officials to search and rescue birds through drones. Through the drone, it will be seen that where the birds are lying dead. Forest department officials have been asked to remain in Nawa until the rescue campaign ends. He has also instructed to put a watch tower on Sambhar lake, so that birds can be monitored.
On the other hand, the government has decided that the water of Sambhar lake will be periodically investigated and proper data will be kept. Regional Forest Officer Kavita Singh said that 632 birds have been rescued along with the removal of dead birds from Sambhar Lake. Along with testing the water locally, tests will also be conducted in other major laboratories of the country.
Like Sambar, birds of native and exotic species have also died in Nawa. These include Northern Shawler, Pintail, Conam Teal, Rudy Shell Duck, Common Code Gedwal, Rough, Black Headed Gal, Green Bee Eater, Black Shalder Bite Caspian Glue, Black Winged Stealth Sand Piper, Marsh Sand Piper, Comes Sand Piper, Wood Sand Piper, Kentis Plover, Little Rings Plover, Lesser Sand Plover, etc. Officials of the forest department informed that birds have died due to the spread of botulism Bactria from Sambhar to Nawa.
