Twitter restored Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's account on Saturday after a week. Apart from them, the accounts of the party and other leaders have also been unlocked. After this, Satyamev Jayate was tweeted from the official handle of Congress. The party's social media in-charge Rohan Gupta termed it as a victory for the people of the country. He said that Twitter has not given any reason for unlocking.
Congress spokesperson Pawan Kheda took a jibe on Twitter when the account was restored. He tweeted, "Dear Twitter, why did you lock my account when you could have deleted my post? I neither deleted nor appealed my post, then why did you restore my account? Under whose pressure are you working?
Rahul released the video on Friday expressing his displeasure over the blocking of his Twitter account. Its title was given to the dangerous game of Twitter. He said that by closing my Twitter account, he is interfering in the political process. A company is making business defining our politics. As a politician, I don't like it.
He said, 'This is an attack on the democracy of the country. This is not just an attack on Rahul Gandhi. I have 19 to 20 million followers. You are taking away from them the right to know my opinion. They are justifying the fact that Twitter is a neutral platform. it's too dangerous. Our democracy is under attack. Twitter has become a discriminatory platform.
Earlier, the Indian National Congress had written on Facebook that when our leaders were put in jails, then we were not afraid, then now what will be afraid of closing the Twitter account. We are Congress, this is the message of the people, we will fight, we will keep fighting. If it is a crime to raise our voice to get justice for the rape victim girl, then we will do this crime a hundred times. Jai Hind… Satyamev Jayate.
Twitter said that the accounts of Congress leaders were locked for violating Indian laws and Twitter's own policy. Rahul had posted the photo of the parents of the Dalit girl. This was in violation of the Juvenile Justice Act and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act. The law clearly states that the identity of the victim should not be made public.
The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) had issued a notice to the microblogging site. Only after this Twitter deleted the tweets of Congress leaders. Some other leaders including Surjewala and Maken had shared the same photograph with their handle against the deletion of Rahul's controversial tweet and the subsequent temporary locking of the account. Due to this, their accounts were also locked.
