Former South Africa captain and legendary batsman AB de Villiers has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. De Villiers, who retired from international cricket in 2018, will no longer be seen playing in franchise cricket. De Villiers announced his retirement via social media. 360 Degree said that he no longer has the same energy for cricket as before and that is why he has decided to leave the field.

No more energy

De Villiers tweeted and wrote – 'It has been an incredible journey, but I have decided to retire from all cricket. Ever since the backyard matches with my older brothers, I have played the game with pure enjoyment and unbridled enthusiasm. Now, at the age of 37, that flame no longer burns so brightly.'

De Villiers has thanked Titans, South Africa, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and all other teams of the world for giving them a chance. He said- 'Cricket has been very kind to me. I would like to thank every teammate, every opposition, every coach, every physio and every staff member. I am also overwhelmed with the love I have received in South Africa, India or wherever I have played'.

This time AB was a flop in IPL

AB de Villiers' bat was silent in IPL 2021. In 15 matches, he could only score 313 runs at an average of 31.30. In 14 innings, only 2 fifties were seen with his bat. In Phase-2, he could only score 106 runs in 8 innings.

De Villiers has played 114 Tests, 228 ODIs and 78 T20Is for South Africa. He has scored 8765 runs in Tests at an average of 50.66. Whereas in ODIs, he has scored 9577 runs at an average of 53.5. At the same time, 1672 runs have been scored in T20 at an average of 26.12.
