Shiv Sena leader Aditya Thackeray said that the issue of Aarey was not a quarrel between the Shiv Sena or BJP, but it is a battle of man versus environment. Thackeray said that we have made a lot of efforts to save the trees, we think the victory in this battle will be of the environment. He said that when the Metro Rail Corporation had cut down trees for the proposed metro shed, he was hopeful of getting justice from the Supreme Court.
Thackeray said, MMRC has already cut down trees, but I am confident that the Supreme Court will bring us justice. Shiv Sena leaders are actively campaigning and holding an election rally ahead of the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections, Aditya Thackeray is contesting from Worli seat in Mumbai.
In the Aarey forest case, the Bombay High Court had recently ruled that the decision of the tree authority of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation to cut trees for Metro-3 is completely just and reasonable.
The court dismissed the petition filed by Joru Bathena to stop the felling of trees. After which the cutting of trees started in the evening. As soon as the information about the tree was cut, a large number of people gathered there and protests started to save the trees.
