Director Rakesh Omprakash Mehra has launched his autobiography 'The Stranger in the Mirror' a few days back. In this book, he has made many big revelations related to his life and career. Rakesh has also shared many interesting anecdotes related to his film 'Rang De Basanti' in the book. He has also revealed that Aamir Khan himself went to Hrithik Roshan's house to convince him to play Karan Singhania in 'Rang De Basanti'. However, Hrithik did not agree and the character of Karan Singhania in the film was played by Tamil actor Siddharth.

Farhan and Abhishek also refused to do the film

Rakesh Omprakash Mehra spoke about the challenges he faced during the making of 'Rang De Basanti'. One of them also included the casting of Karan Singhania. The director revealed that he had approached a few people including Farhan Akhtar, Abhishek Bachchan, and Hrithik Roshan. He told in the book, "Every well-known actor had refused to play the role of Karan Singhania. I first offered it to Farhan Akhtar. It was a time when he had never acted in a film before. And he was one of the most respected young directors. So when I offered him the role, he was surprised. When I told Abhishek about the role, he too refused me."

Aamir told Hrithik – it is a good film, do it

Rakesh Omprakash Mehra further said, "After Abhishek refused, I again requested Aamir Khan to speak with Hrithik Roshan. Aamir even went to his house to persuade Hrithik Roshan to play Karan Singhania in the film. He went to Hrithik and told him that it was a good film to do. But, Hrithik Roshan also did not agree. After this, in January 2005, a month before the shooting of the film, Siddharth was finalized for the role of Karan Singhania. Siddharth had never done a Hindi film before."

Rakesh said, "We saw Siddharth's Tamil film Boyz. Actors like Om Puri, Anupam Kher, Kirron Kher, Mohan Agashe, and KK Raina are all masters in their acting. It is because of the contribution of all the actors that we have been able to make such a great film. Be successful." Earlier, Rakesh had also revealed that he had approached Shah Rukh Khan for the role of Flight Lieutenant Ajay Rathod. He had said that Shahrukh did not have dates. They were very busy. In his book, he revealed that Rakesh had gone to the US to sign Shah Rukh for the film, where he was shooting for 'Swades'. But, due to date constraints, this character was later played by South's superstar R Madhavan.
