After reviewing both phones, it is time to choose the winner between OnePlus 8 Pro and Mi 10 5G. Given the pricing and variants on offer, the Mi 10 5G starts at 8GB RAM and 128GB storage and another option is for 8GB RAM with 256GB storage. Meanwhile, the base variant of OnePlus 8 Pro starts at 8GB RAM and 128GB storage, while the top-end version costs Rs. 59,999 for 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. Both phones come in almost the same price segment with some overlap in pricing.
The OnePlus 8 Pro and Mi 10 5G are relatively feature-packed with differentiating factors, mainly with cameras and software, so we’ll focus more on these areas.
OnePlus 8 Pro vs Mi 10 5G Cameras
Cameras are going to be the main deciding factor for most people, so let’s start with them. Both smartphones have impressive main cameras. The Mi 10 5G uses a 108-megapixel Samsung sensor, while the OnePlus 8 Pro uses the new Sony IMX689 48-megapixel sensor. Both have 4-in-1 pixel binning, and both have OIS as well as larger apertures.
When shooting in daylight, both phones do a great job with details, but the OnePlus 8 Pro manages better dynamic range and has a more neutral colour tone. The Mi 10 5G is meant to crush dark areas such as shadows and has a warm colour tone. The Mi 10 5G’s wide-angle camera captures better exposure in a single scene, but the details are weak, with the rash visible in the clouds. OnePlus 8 Pro maintains its neutral tone with better detail. I would choose the 8 Pro for landscape photography, simply because it has a more consistent colour tone in main and wide-angle cameras.
OnePlus 8 Pro vs Mi 10 5G Software: This is not a competition
The second most important decision factor will be software. Both MIUI and OxygenOS are a ton of features that allow you to customize the look and feel of Android, but I think it’s also worth going to the Round OnePlus 8 Pro. The simple reason for this is that OxygenOS does not contain a lot of bloatware, and it does not bombard your notification shade with annoying alerts from your stock apps. Xiaomi assured us that Mi 10 5G users will not face the same spammy MIUI experience that we get with its budget phone, but in my experience, the problem is not completely eliminated.
OnePlus 8 Pro vs Mi 10 5G Design: Equally Premium
This part is a bit subjective, but I think both companies have done a great job of preparing their phones. OnePlus 8 Pro and Mi 10 5G are big and heavy smartphones but look and feel highly premium. Both phones have slim bezels on the left and right of their phones with hole-punch cutouts for their front cameras. Neither one has a headphone jack, nor is there any option to expand storage. The OnePlus 8 Pro has louder sounding stereo speakers than the Mi 10 5G, and benefits from Dolby Atmos. The 8 Pro also has an IP68 rating, which makes it dust and water-resistant. The Mi 10 5G only gets P2i coating to repel light water splashes.
