9 Cases of Maharashtra Irrigation Scam Closed

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday closed nine cases related to the Rs 71000-crore irrigation scam registered in 2013. The ACB says that the nine cases which have been closed have no relation with Ajit Pawar. Some of these cases are related to Vidarbha Irrigation Development Corporation (VIDC), when Ajit Pawar was its chairman.

Despite this cleanliness of the ACB, the closure of these cases has raised people's ears. Before the 2014 assembly and Lok Sabha elections, the BJP had heavily redeemed these matters in its election rallies. Then Devendra Fadnavis himself was roaming that if the BJP came to power, Irrigation Minister Ajit Pawar would grind the mill in jail. But now Ajit Pawar has taken oath as Deputy Chief Minister along with Fadnavis. These cases have been closed on the third day of swearing.

According to ACB officer Paramvir Singh, we are examining about 3000 tenders in case of complaints related to irrigation. These are routine checks, which have closed. In other cases, our investigation is still going on.

Significantly, between 1999 and 2009, there was an alleged Rs 70 thousand crore irrigation scam in Maharashtra. In which the Anti-Corruption Bureau had blamed Ajit Pawar in November 2018 in the alleged irrigation scam of about 70 thousand crores in Maharashtra. The Maharashtra Anti-Corruption Bureau had told the Bombay High Court that its investigation into the alleged crores of crores worth of irrigation scam has revealed a huge lapse on behalf of Ajit and other government officials. The scam is worth about Rs 70,000 crore, which is linked to alleged corruption and irregularities in sanctioning and starting many irrigation projects during the Congress-NCP regime.
