Nearly a week has been passed since the last US plane left Afghanistan. In the midst of this international turmoil, the challenge before the US is how to deal with Afghan citizens who have been deported from Afghanistan as refugees. The number of Afghan refugees who reached America is more than 80 thousand according to the officials of the Biden administration.

Special immigration visas are being given to Afghan Refugees

Before settling in the country, these refugees are being thoroughly investigated, for which apart from 4 military bases of the Pentagon, some other places have also been prepared. They will be given a special immigration visa only after this investigation. There are also many people who are not able to fulfill the visa conditions even after being found correct in the investigation. They are being allowed to enter the country on humanitarian parole.

Biometric screening of refugees

Those arriving in the US from Afghanistan are being kept at the military base first, Biden administration officials said. They will be closely examined for 30 days. An official of the US Department says that along with the full history of the refuges, biometric tests are also being done. In connection with this investigation, some people have also been taken to Qatar. 4 military bases for investigation have been marked by the Pentagon.

Refugees are being processed at Fort Lee in Virginia, McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst Joint Base in New Jersey, Fort Bliss in Texas, Fort McCoy in Wisconsin, and Marine Corps Base in Quantico, Virginia, and the Dallas Expo Center near Washington DC are also being added to this work.

American culture is also being explained

A cargo building at JFK Airport in New York is also being converted into temporary accommodation for refugees, sources said. At the military base along with the investigation, the refugees are being helped in getting the papers. Orientation courses are also being running to make them understand American culture. Covid test of every refugee is also being done.

A vaccination camp is also going on at the Dallas Expo Center. In the resettlement of these refugees, NGOs and religious agencies are also engaged. After the complete investigation at the military base, it is being decided by the officials, where to send the refugee families.

Executive director of Migration and Refugee Services Bill Kenney at the US Conference of Catholic Bishops, says that all these families are loyal to America. They shouldn't face any problem. For the employment of these refugees, the settlement agencies are also making arrangements along with their accommodation.

Stipend for every refugee

A one-time stipend of 1200 dollars i.e. 88 thousand rupees is given for every refugee by the government. This amount is the same for children and elders. That is, a family of 5 people gets an amount of 6 thousand dollars i.e. about 4.4 lakh rupees. It has to be spent by the family within 90 days.

The settlement agencies make arrangements for their shelter, furniture, and others with this amount. Vice President of Rices organization, Marisol Girela says that part of our effort is to give cash to families. The more people donate, the more government money is left for helping the family.
