The world's first 3D printed steel bridge has been built in Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands. From its design to preparation, the robot has done the work. It is made from 4500 kg of steel and mounted on the oldest canal in Amsterdam.

The Netherlands-based company MX3D, which built the bridge, says it was inaugurated on 15 July and opened to the public on 18 July.

4 robots built a 12-meter long bridge

This 12-meter long bridge has been prepared by 4 robots together. It took about 6 months to get it ready and after that, the bridge was brought with the help of a boat. Then it was fitted with a crane by placing it on the canal. The company that built it says, all the data related to the bridge will be fed into the computer so that it can help in building such a bridge next time.

Sensors will check the health of the bridge

The company has named this steel bridge MX3D. How many people will be able to bear the load of this bridge, what will be the effect on the rise and fall in temperature, and how strong it will be, the bridge has met all these parameters. There are more than a dozen sensors in the bridge. With their help, all the information related to the strength of the bridge has been received, only after that, it has been opened to the common people.

Can be alerted before damage occurs

Mark Girolami of Cambridge University, who worked on the digital model of the bridge, says, "Engineers often don't pay attention to the risk of damage to the bridge, but we have focused on it as well." In the future, an alert can be issued before such a bridge gets damaged.

Engineers associated with the bridge will study this model and find out whether 3D-printed steel can be used to build a large building. Girolami says 3D-printed steel is very strong. However, it depends on how it is printed.

What is 3D-printing

3D printing is a manufacturing technique, with the help of which 3-dimensional things are created. These things are made with a 3D printer. A simple printer requires ink and paper. But with a 3D printer, you can also decide the size, color, and design of whatever you create. Once everything is set, the data is fed into the machine. And the robots do the work of preparing the things.
