The government's privatization plan to give the airport to railway stations has had no effect on the lockdown caused by COVID. The bid for the redevelopment of Gwalior, Nagpur, Amritsar and Sabarmati railway stations was called in December by the Ministry of Railways. It was opened on June 26, with a total of 32 bids received. Of these, 29 bids have been accepted by Railways. Those whose bids have been accepted include companies such as Infraprojects Limited, Kalpataru Power Transmission Limited, GMR Business and Consultancy LLP and Cube Construction Engineering Limited.
According to information received from the Indian Railway Station Development Corporation Limited (IRSDC), the bidding organization for the privatization of stations by the Ministry of Railways, 3 out of 32 applications of RFQs (Request for Qualification) were rejected. Now a total of 29 bids remain. The bidding company will now participate in a further phase. According to the Railways, 6 bids have been found for Nagpur, 8 bids for Gwalior, 6 bids for Amritsar and 9 bids for Sabarmati.

The railway wants to develop its selected stations like an airport, named Railopolis. Real estate hubs will also be developed in these stations. There will be residential flats there, malls and educational institutions will also be built there.
Indian Railway Station Development Corporation Limited is a joint venture company of RLDA (Rail Land Development Authority) and IRCON, which currently holds 50-50 per cent ownership. RITES is also expected to join another promoter with 24% equity soon. RITES and IRCON will jointly hold 50% equity.
