India to Host U-17 Women’s World Cup in 2020

After the successful host of the Under-17 Male FIFA World Cup, the way to host another World Cup was cleared on Friday. India will host the Under-17 Women FIFA World Cup to be held in 2020. This is confirmed.

Confirming the development, All India Football Federation General Secretary Kushal Das told: "We are thankful to FIFA for giving the right to host the U-17 Women's World Cup. This will raise the profile of women's football in the country.

"We have been giving a lot of emphasis on the development of women's football in the country. So we bid for the U-17 Women's World Cup and now we have got it."

We are delighted to announce that India has been confirmed as the host of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in 2020," Infantino said after the FIFA Council meeting in Miami, USA on March 15.

The U-17 women's tournament began in 2008 when New Zealand hosted it. Spain is the current champion and they had beaten Mexico 2-1 in the final in Uruguay last year. The tournament in India will be the Seventh Edition.

Asian teams are the most successful teams in the tournament, with North Korea (2008 and 2016) having won it twice while Japan (2014) and South Korea (2010) had won it once each. France (2012) and Spain (2018) are the only non-Asian teams to have won the tournament.

The Spain Under-17 female is the defending champion of the FIFA World Cup, while New Zealand and Canada remain third and fourth respectively. There has been some development after Successful Host of U-17 Men's FIFA World Cup in India.

Javier Seppi, Director of the Under-17 Men's World Cup tournament, congratulated India on being declared host for the event. He said, 'Good news for India and women's game.'

It is known that men's dominance in the World Cup is dominated by European nations, but the women's Under-17 World Cup is dominated by Asian countries. So far this World Cup has been held six times, in which North Korea has won 2008, 2016, South Korea 2010 and Japan in 2014. India has not joined in yet.
