173 New Cases of Coronavirus Reported in Odisha, 2,781 Infected So Far

On Saturday, 173 cases of Covid-19 were reported in Odisha which is the highest number of cases reported in any single day, with these new cases the total corona virus cases in the state rose to 2,781. An official of the Health Department gave this information, he further said that 150 people out of 173 patients are in segregated habitat centers, where people returning from different states are kept. 23 other cases of infection were detected while identifying those who came in close contact with the infected ones. New cases have come from 14 districts and Ganjam district has the maximum number of 64 cases, 19 in Jajpur, 13-13 in Cuttack and Mayurbhanj, 11-11 in Balasore and Bolangir and 10 in Gajapati. Nine cases were reported in Khurda, eight in Naupada, seven in Nayagarh, four in Bhadrak, two in Kalahandi and one each in Jharsuguda and Puri.

The state's health department tested 3,611 samples on Friday and according to the department, the total number of samples tested so far is 1,72,621. The number of people treated in the state has now increased to 1,167, while 1,604 people have recovered from the disease. The official said eight people died of the disease, while two other infected patients died of other diseases, whereas among the districts where more than 100 cases have been reported, Ganjam (597), Jajpur (312), Khurda (226), Balasore (190), Cuttack (167), Kendrapara (163), Bhadrak (140), Bolangir (116) are included. Meanwhile, another official said that the Odisha government has exempted nine senior IAS officers from Covid-19 duty, the officer said that he has been removed from Covid-19 duty so that he can fulfill his basic administrative responsibilities.

Chief Secretary AK Tripathi wrote on his official Twitter handle, "Some senior officers engaged in Covid-19 duty have been exempted from there to perform their basic administrative responsibilities." He did a great job handling the situations and we thank him for his dedication. " Meanwhile, amid the increase in corona cases security has been tightened in 11 districts of the state – Ganjam, Puri, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Khurda, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore and Bolangir – to implement a complete shutdown on non-essential services on Saturday and Sunday, whereas the continuation of the shutdown of two days a week in these districts will continue till the end of June.
