The Income Tax Department has taken a big action against former AIADMK General Secretary VK Sasikala. The officials of the Income Tax Department have seized Sasikala’s Rs 1500 crore Property. These actions have been taken under the provisions of the Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Act. Sasikala, a longtime friend of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, is serving a four-year jail term in a corruption case.
The Income Tax Department had unearthed the documents during the raid on the properties of Sasikala and her relatives under Operation ‘Clean Money’. These properties were purchased after demonetisation. Sasikala has property in Chennai, Coimbatore, Puducherry and some places in Tamil Nadu, which has been confiscated by the Income Tax Department.
Sasikala has been in jail since 2017
}All these properties were allegedly not transferred by Sasikala or her family while declaring their assets. Sasikala has been in jail since February 2017. The Supreme Court convicted him in a disproportionate assets case by a special court in Bangalore and sentenced him to four years imprisonment.
After Jayalalithaa’s demise in December 2016, Sasikala, who took over the reins of the AIADMK, was later expelled from the party led by the then Chief Minister Palaniswami. His relatives Ilavarasi and VN Sudhakaran are also serving four-year jail sentences in the case. Sasikala has also been questioned about her alleged involvement in Jayalalithaa’s death.
Sasikala was closest to Jayalalithaa and Jayalalithaa believed in her. There was a deep friendship between the two for nearly three decades. Some people used to call Sasikala the shadow of Jayalalithaa. In 2011, Sasikala was severely accused of trying to kill Jayalalithaa with slow poison.
It was alleged that after the murder of Sasikala Jayalalithaa, she wanted to see her husband Natarajan become the Chief Minister. After this Jayalalithaa expelled Sasikala from the party and made a complete distance from them. However, Sasikala later apologized to him. Jayalalithaa’s heart melted and she forgave Sasikala.
