11 Killed During Ganpati Visarjan in Bhopal

11 bodies have been recovered so far and many people are said to be missing in the accident.

Many people drowned at the Khatlapura Ghat in Bhopal during the Ganpati immersion in the early hours of Friday. 11 bodies have been recovered so far. Nine people have been rescued. Police and administration officials have reached the spot. Three people are still reported missing. A team of divers has been launched in the river to search for the missing people. It is said that this incident happened in Khatlapura due to more people boarding the boat. Looking forward for more information.

After the ongoing ceremony in Piplani area, people reached the spot to immerse the Ganesh idol. As the idol was large, the balance of the boat deteriorated due to which it sank. After getting information about the incident, the NDRF team has reached the spot. Madhya Pradesh Minister PC Sharma expressed grief over the incident and said that it is a very unfortunate incident. The state government has announced financial assistance of Rs. Four lakh to the families of the deceased.

The matter of serious negligence is coming to light. In the past, there have been incidents of drowning of people. There was no security arrangement from the police here during Ganesh immersion. Meanwhile, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Kamal Nath has directed a magisterial inquiry into the incident. The statement issued said that strict action will be taken against whichever negligence is revealed in this accident.

According to eyewitnesses, the two boats were interlinked, carrying 22-23 people. All people were aged 27–28 years. No one wore a life jacket. First one boat overturned, and the people jumped on it. After this, the balance of the second boat also deteriorated and both boats sank. The headquarters of the Madhya Pradesh Home Guard and the State Disaster Rescue Team (SDRF) are also said to be located at the place where the incident occurred.
